About Us
What the Organization Does
The People’s Accords is a US nonprofit organization implementing web3 technology as part of a new framework for citizen-to-citizen diplomacy. We are building a community of citizen diplomats who engage in cross-cultural leadership, communication, and grassroots business development that help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). There is no better way to solve the challenges facing communities than to derive solutions internally from the indigenous knowledge and expertise within communities themselves.
How We Got Our Name
The organization's name was inspired by the Abraham Accords in the Middle East, which focused on creating commonality and economic collaboration across cultures. Building on the success of this initiative, we believe such an approach can be implemented by connecting people at the community and individual levels - creating a People’s Accords.
Where We Are Going
Our vision includes a blockchain-based community investment program that provides citizen diplomats a platform to propose profitable solutions to the challenges that matter most to them (like quality education or good health and well-being). The Web3 Framework for Citizen Diplomacy extends the opportunity for leadership to ordinary community members and enhances the opportunity for grassroots solutions suitable to the communities they are designed to serve.
Who Benefits
Traditionally, diplomatic and economic development activity has been reserved for the most wealthy in a society who can afford to travel, learn multiple languages, and often only communicate amongst other elites with the same privileges. Wherein the outcomes of those diplomatic interactions are relayed from the top down throughout society and contribute to forming public opinions about other cultures and people from different societies.
Technology removes the need for travel and it can also protect the identity and physical safety of those who wish to communicate with others in sensitive or tense diplomatic situations. The Web3 Framework for Citizen Diplomacy extends the opportunity for leadership to local leaders and enhances the opportunity for grassroots solutions suitable to the communities they are designed to serve.
Why Now
Today more than 1/2 of the global population uses social media and has access to the Internet. What is possible with Web3, and even with Web2 to a lesser extent, is removing the socioeconomic barriers to diplomatic participation by citizens of any nation. Developments in technology such as massive open online courses (MOOC), real-time language translation, blockchain, and virtual reality have created a historic opportunity for people to enhance their skills, communicate, and cooperate like never before.
The privileged, wealthy, and highly educated may have all the best intentions, however, this minority can't have all the answers. To achieve no poverty, zero hunger, quality education, gender equality, clean energy, and more - Web3 Diplomacy presents an innovative grassroots framework for doing so. Each society and community is unique, and thus the means to attaining a sustainable and comfortable quality of life are also unique for different regions and subregions of the world.
